What is PRINCE2®?
PRINCE2® is a methodology or way of working that provides best practice guidance and structure for project management across all industries. PRINCE itself, is an acroynm for PRojects IN Controlled Environments.
The PRINCE2 way of working was initially developed by the Office of Government and Commerce in the UK and is the most widely used project management methodology in both the public and private sectors, especially in the UK where it is common place. PRINCE2 also has a strong influence in the Middle East, Europe, and Australia.
PRINCE2 is has two separate tiers, Foundation and Practitioner. The PRINCE2 Foundation training will teach you the common language and terminology used, along with the principles. PRINCE2 Practitioner training is more advanced and goes deeper into the PRINCE2 methodology to really solidify the knowledge of the adopter.
The Importance of Projects
In 2019 Axelos conducted their PPM benchmark study which found that 88% of project managers agreed that the business environment has become more competitive. Organisations are striving to find a competitive advantage wherever they can. To do this, they must change to stay ahead of the competition, survive and thrive.
“Eight out of ten project managers say that project and programme management is becoming a more fundamental aspect of overall business success.”
Project and programme management are crucial to that survival. Projects and programmes are how organisations introduce change and PRINCE2, as the world’s most widely-adopted project management method, helps organisations do just that.
“Project managers are faced with the increasing expectation to deliver greater competitive advantage with reduced budgets, in tougher timeframes.”
